So by now we all know the background story on the Full Tilt Affair right? Full Tilt Poker was one of the three online poker sites shut down on Black Friday aka April 15, 2011. The casino and its trustees were accused of fraud, embezzlement and breaking the Wire Act and were investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice. Full Tilt received its operating license from the British licensing authorities and in September of this year had that license revoked by the Alderney Gaming Control Commission (AGCC). The AGCC has now begun its own independent investigation of their actions in regards to Full Tilt Poker.
Because the Full Tilt Affair has been so public and because the company still owes its former customers somewhere in the region of 0 million, AGCC seems to be concerned about how it handled their case. Representatives of AGCC stated that their decision to commission an independent review was based on a need to present full transparency to the public.
The AGCC suspended the Full Tilt license temporarily until a full hearing could be conducted. After that hearing, which was postponed and then closed to the public, the license was taken on a more permanent basis. While facing a licensing hearing in the U.K., trustees of the casino site were facing civil charges in the U.S. court system. It has been quite a year for Full Tilt that has now been purchased by a french investment firm who are hoping to reestablish Full Tilt’s gambling license.
The independent investigation of AGCC’s interaction with Full Tilt Poker will be under the supervision of former British Gambling head, Peter Dean. With 20 years experience on the nation’s gambling commission he is considered a reliable impartial source to investigate the facts surrounding the license and hearings.
The results of the investigation are expected in March of next year.
